Annuario 2020 – Didattica e Catasti storici – Davide Mastrovito e Valentina Di Natale
Historical cadastres are rich resources for tracing the history of a territory. In addition to the maps, the details contained in the registers allow us to explore things such as historical toponyms or ancient crops. This article discusses an educational experience centered on a 19th century cadastre that has enabled students to discover the lost geography of their territory. This experience also offered students the opportunity to learn about the existence of historical documents concerning an area of apparently little interest, the hinterland of Milan, where twelfth-century urbanization erased
historical landscape and local geographies. Through these activities, students could play the role of the historian, and appreciate the importance of discovery and sharing.
