Annuario 2020 – La musica nelle chiese di Milano durante l’età napoleonica – Matteo Marni
The archival fonds Atti di Governo – Culto, P.M. in the Milan State Archive is a valuable source of information about sacred music in Milan in the Napoleonic age. Despite the religious suppressions ordered by Joseph II and the additional ones imposed by French occupants, in the early 19th century more than 100 churches had survived in Milan. This article aims to reconstruct the musical life of the Milanese churches in the Napoleonic age: it describes the functions of the musical chapels and outlines the biographical profiles of the church musicians and organ-builders.
