Annuario 2020 – Le origini della chiesa di San Pietro al Po a Cremona – Silvia Cibolini
The article examines the original appearance of the church of San Pietro al Po in Cremona, a splendid example of Lombard mannerism, which was rebuilt with the present structure in 1573, following a disastrous collapse. Using mostly unpublished documents preserved in the Cremona State Archives, the author reconstructs the events that preceded the rebuilding of the church, from its foundation in 1064 to its restauration. The article also discusses the events following the issuing of the Lateran Canons in 1439, including the expansion of the monastery and the reconstruction of the church, which became a prestigious place, attracting wealthy families from Cremona who wished to show their influence.
